Foster Grandparents Program (FGP)

FGP is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service and is sponsored locally by
Sacramento County Department of Child, Family and Adult Services.

To Qualify

Who can volunteer?

The Foster Grandparent Program has four basic criteria to qualify:

1. Must be 55 years of age or older

2. Must enjoy working with children

3. Must be willing to serve a minimum of 15 hours a

week

Where do volunteers work?

Volunteers work with infants and children in a variety of settings:

The Children's Receiving Home
Schools
Day care centers
Juvenile Hall
Job Corps
Hospitals

What kind of work is done?

Volunteers can choose from a variety of activities:

Helping children with long term illnesses
Caring for children who have been abused or neglected
Helping children who are at risk from dropping out of school
Helping children who are at risk of substance abuse.
Tutoring and mentoring children
Holding and nurturing babies who are born prematurely with health problems or parentally exposed to drugs/alcohol
