SACRAMENTO, Calif. – On May 12, The Effort and Sacramento Native American Health Center (SNAHC) is hosting Second Saturday art displays in conjunction with the Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services/ Division of Behavioral Health Services (DHHS/DBHS) featuring pieces from local Sacramento County residents. The art displayed will help to promote messages of wellness, hope and recovery, and to dispel myths and stereotypes about mental illness.

WHAT:  FREE Art Show open to the public

SPEAKERS: 
•         Ann Edwards, Director, Department of Health and Human Services
•         Artists

The Mental Illness: It’s not always what you think Second Saturday art show will bring together artwork from local residents touched by mental illness.

The event will also recognize Mental Health Champions in Sacramento County. This recognition honors individuals and organizations who have made a significant contribution towards:

•         Reducing stigma experienced by people living with mental illness
•         Providing support or treatment to people living with mental illness
•         Advocacy for issues related to mental health and/or advancing knowledge in the area of mental illness
              and mental health research

WHEN:          May 12, 2012, Speakers begin at 5:30 p.m. Show open until 8:30 p.m.

WHERE:        The Effort, 1820 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95811

Artwork will also be displayed at the:
                    Sacramento Native American Health Center
                    2020 J Street
                    Sacramento, CA 95811

VISUALS:       Dozens of pieces of artwork by Sacramento County residents.  Featured artists will also be in 
                       attendance.

RESOURCES:  County representatives will be present. Names will be made available as attendance
                        is confirmed.
