SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Studies show mothers best learn effective parenting skills during their first pregnancy. Sacramento County will celebrate the most recent graduates of the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Program, a program that develops strong, capable mothers on Friday, May 15, 2015. NFP is an evidence-based, community health program that helps vulnerable mothers pregnant with their first child. Mothers served by NFP are partnered with a registered nurse early in their pregnancy and continue to receive nurse home visits through the child's second birthday. NFP improves pregnancy outcomes by helping women engage in good preventative health practices, including thorough prenatal care, improving their diet and reducing their use of cigarettes and alcohol. Strong evidence indicates that NFP prevents child abuse and neglect and produces significant economic return on investment.
