News Release Details
SITUATION:
The Sacramento County Division of Public Health has issued a smoke advisory due to the release of a plume of white smoke visible due to a wildfire. The smoke is visible from the Placer County line to Highway 50, Watt Avenue up to the Folsom area. As a result fine particulate matter concentration levels are expected to be in the moderate to unhealthy range for sensitive groups. This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
Public Health Recommendations for areas affected by smoke:
If visibility is less than 5 miles due to smoke than smoke has reached levels that are potentially unhealthy. As a result the following public health actions should be taken:
1. If the smoke becomes thick in your community you should remain indoors.
2. At risk populations including residents with heart disease, respiratory illnesses (asthma, bronchitis,
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), residents with chest pain, the very young and the elderly
should especially remain indoors.
3. Limit outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present.
4. Relocate temporarily if smoke is present indoors and is making you sick or causing symptoms
including breathing difficulties, wheezing, shortness of breath or coughing. If symptoms persist
please see your primary care provider.
