Update on opioid-related overdoses (April 1, 2016)
Below is the latest information available regarding the opioid-related overdoses that were reported in the Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services news release dated March 25, 2016 and subsequent news release dated March 29.
Question: What is the current number of overdoses that have been reported to Public Health?
Answer: As of this morning, 36 opioid-related overdoses have been reported.
Question: How many deaths are suspected of being caused by this street drug?
Answer: As of this morning, of the 36 overdoses, nine deaths have been reported. There have been eight deaths in Sacramento County and one death in Yolo County.
Question: What are the ages of those who have overdosed?
Answer: The ages of those who have overdosed range from 18-59 years of age.
Question: How many are male and how many are female who have overdosed:
Answer: Approximately 50% are male and 50% are female.
Question: What can people do to stop these overdoses?
Answer: Public Health advises residents to decline from taking prescription-type pills that are not prescribed by and obtained from one's own physician and/or pharmacy.
